Personalized Higher Education Consulting for College and Graduate School

Maximize Your Potential

Hey, I’m Jo.

My wife, Joanna, and I have three children all under the age of 10!  I’ve strived and been blessed to lead a life of service because of the upbringing from my parents, Pablo and Lucille.  They never accepted a “B” because they knew I had the potential to earn an “A”, resulting in a work ethic and discipline which have led to my success both as a Naval Officer and an Admissions Coach.  I earned acceptance into the U.S. Naval Academy, won one of 60 nationwide Harry S Truman Scholarships, and earned a full scholarship to Harvard University for graduate school, as well as acceptance into every Graduate School to which I applied, including Stanford, Oxford, and Johns Hopkins.

Upon graduating from Harvard in 2005, I started coaching others.  Whether as a Nuclear Submarine Officer or later as an Intelligence Officer, it’s been my passion to help others achieve their own dreams!  I’ve been blessed to help them get accepted to their top choice schools, including Harvard, Dartmouth, Northwestern, Hillsdale, and many others.  I know how to succeed in the higher education application process because I’ve personally done it, and I am proud to assist others in doing so as well.

I love learning the personal stories and values of others, and having those leap off the application when it is read by an admissions board.  My own professional writing in uniform has informed the highest echelons of military leadership and national security policymakers, including the President of the United States in the Presidential Daily Briefings.  Additionally, 100% of my clients have earned acceptance into their top choice schools or next career milestone.  I know how to maximize the potential of others just like my parents did for me; get the attention of admissions boards so they see your most important values; and win acceptance to the top programs in the world.

Paul S.
HARVARD UNIVERSITY

He assisted me in understanding parts of my life and their significance which I did not fully comprehend. Perhaps even more important, Jo’s forthright yet relaxed manner motivated me to work hard while still feeling perfectly comfortable to ask questions and seek advice from him. Jo is one of those special individuals who possesses a true gift and God-given talent for helping others achieve their maximum potential.

Jenn A.
DARTMOUTH UNIVERSITY

Jo took the time to get to know me as an individual. Our mentoring sessions went beyond how to format a resume or write a compelling admissions essay. He helped me navigate personal challenges as well. I struggled with how to balance a career with starting a family. His advice still guides me to this day. Jo always encouraged me to pursue my biggest goals and his encouragement pushed me to excel in ways I would have previously doubted myself capable of.

Gabe M.
US SPACE FORCE

Coming from Africa and speaking English with a thick accent comes with lots of challenges. Jo was never bothered with this. His self-less and kindhearted nature was his compass guiding his relationship with me. Jo is authentic! He is committed to investing everything into your future dreams and aspirations. Jo is that coaching partner who is always there to support your leap to the level you desire.

FAQ

    • I provide more personalized attention than any high school college guidance office can, just by the sheer numbers.  Some of the best private, college preparatory schools have decent ratios of approximately 80 students per College Guidance Counselor.  Most public high schools have upwards of 300 - 400 students per Counselor.  My ratio is currently 3 students to the Coach (me), and will never exceed 15 students to the Coach.

    • I also provide free personalized service to the parents of each student I coach, which high school College Guidance Offices can not do, just because of the sheer numbers of students they are responsible for.

    • Lastly, it is important to highlight that I do not compete with the services from the College Guidance Offices at your student’s school, but Complement them.  We will integrate the events, activities, and work from the College Guidance Office into our milestones calendar.  So I will be keeping your student on task with those key events.  This coaching takes the stress off of parents to be the ones reminding their students.

  • Yes! Increasingly colleges are conducting in-person or virtual interviews, and most graduate business schools conduct interviews as well.  To prepare you for them, we will do practice sessions, and then real-time mock interviews where you will dress the part, and from the moment the interview starts to when it ends, it’s as if you’re in an actual interview.  We then end the interview (whether in person or on a video chat), and then come back in the room or video chat to do a full & candid feedback session to improve your skills.  See Jim P’s testimony for a real account of someone who has been through it!

    • I provide more personalized attention than any college’s graduate school admissions service can, just by the sheer numbers.  When hundreds of college students are seeking guidance from the Grad School Admissions services office, my ratio is currently 3 students to the Coach (me), and will never exceed 15 students to the Coach.

    • If you are in College and are applying to graduate school, it is important to highlight that I do not compete with the services from the Grad School Guidance Offices, but Complement them.  We will build a calendar of key milestones to keep you organized throughout the process, and any events offered by your Guidance Office will be integrated into out calendar.

    • See the testimonies personal accounts on how this all works to earn acceptance to the best Graduate Schools!

    • My program has three aspects: Maximizing the student’s potential; Minimizing the stress of the college admissions process; and Making it a family unifying process.  I achieve this through three key lines of effort: STAYING ORGANIZED, BEING YOURSELF, and OUTWORKING EVERYONE!

    • Central to the vision and lines of effort is tailoring every coaching service specifically to each individual student.  High schools with College Guidance Offices have very large Guidance Counselor to Student Ratios: anywhere from 35 students per counselor to 300+!  The counselors do incredible work; however, I provide the personal experience for the student AND their Family, which school counselors can not, simply due to the sheer numbers.

    • I give one-on-one coaching for every single essay and every school the student wishes to apply.  With my help, your student will produce the best essay they possibly can.  With so many schools being so competitive, the essays, letters of recommendations, and activity sheets are where they can get the attention of Admissions readers.

    • I will help your student understand themselves so they can transmit their best values to their selected schools.  BEING YOURSELF and AUTHENTICITY remain key to succeeding in this process.

    • My writing earned acceptance into every graduate school to which I applied, the Rhode Scholar Semi-Final level, and one of 60 Harry S Truman Scholarships in the nation.  As a Naval Intelligence Officer, my writing informed the highest echelons of military leaders and policymakers, including the President of the United States.  I will bring out the best in your student!

    • We build a list of matching schools at every level: Reach, Target, and Likely.  With over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. alone, there are multiple matches for every student to achieve their full potential.  We will find them!

    • We build an individualized calendar for each student to stay organized with all deadlines and programs leading up to submission of college applications, financial aid packages, and (upon success of getting into their top school) the deposit securing their spot in the higher education college or university.  STAYING ORGANIZED is key to mitigating the stress in this process.

    • I give one-on-one coaching to ensure students maximize their standardized test scores.  I personally increased my SAT scores 300 points using this method.  While I can’t promise the same increase in all students, I can promise I will get the student to maximize their test scores if they follow the same strategy.

    • My official policy is to respond to every email within 48 business hours; however, I typically respond to every email or text within one to two hours.  When there is an essay to review, my policy is to have it back to the student with edits and feedback within 48 business hours.

    • In case of emergencies (see Testimony from Isaac H.), I will do all within my power to shift everything around to get on a call with the students and/or parents.  Building a comprehensive calendar and paying solid attention to detail mitigates the need for such emergencies, but they do happen and I am on call for my students and their families.

    • Clients in good standing will have direct texting access with me (via WhatsAPP, Text, or Signal), anytime.
